Founded in 1943 as the Salt River Valley Blood Bank in Phoenix, Arizona, today, Vitalant offers not only blood products, but also a vast array of transfusion, laboratory, therapeutic, biotherapy and specialty services. Our Sister Organizations
Our blood services division has a network of about 120 community blood donation centers nationwide serving more than 900 hospitals.
In addition, the world-renowned Vitalant Research Institute is engaged in scientific studies ranging from blood donor epidemiology to cellular therapy to virus discovery. The Institute leads the way in understanding new threats to blood safety and helping to find practical applications of new knowledge in transfusion biology.
Vitalant also is a partner in the operations of Creative Testing Solutions, the largest independent blood donor testing organization in the U.S. CTS operates high-volume laboratories in major metropolitan areas across the country.
